Before 1869, former slaves and descendants of slaves from “The Heart of the Foothills” in South Carolina worshiped at the Reedy River Baptist Church. Seeking their identity, the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church was organized in 1869 by Eli Moore. Mr. Thomas W. Roe a member of Reedy River Church donated land to Mt. Sinai for the first church.
